Recently I setup a new Windows Server 2016 Server with Hyper-V in my home lab environment. I configured Hyper-V Replica to replicate some of the VMs from the older Windows Server 2012R2 system over to the new 2016 Server. Replication went fine and today I attempted to failover to the new system so I could repurpose the old server hardware. Planned Failover went fine and when … [Read more...]
Windows Setup could not configure Windows to run on this computer’s hardware
I was busy doing some testing with SBS 2008 recently and went to build a new VM from the ISO on my 2016 Hyper-V server. It failed with an error of “Windows Setup could not configure Windows to run on this computer’s hardware”. Interesting I thought, maybe it won’t run on my 2016 Hyper-V server, so I then went to build it on my 2012R2 Hyper-V Server and got the exact same … [Read more...]

While I did the rebuild, I moved my machines onto a 2012 R2 Hyper-V server that was a member server within the domain. Once I got my cluster fully working, I used SCVMM to move the … [Read more...]
SCVMM 2012 R2 and moving machines to an SMB3 share fails
I’m doing some work with my home cluster at the moment, and moving machines back onto it after I rebuilt it to use SMB3 only. When I attempt to move the VMs using SCVMM 2012 R2, I get the message “The specified path is not a valid folder path…” This only happens if I check the option to “Make this VM Highly Available”. If I leave that option disabled, then it works … [Read more...]
