Trend last week (14th March), quietly and without fanfare released Build 1417 of the WFBS 7.0 product. You can download it here direct from them.
Trend have not said much about this build, but I was given it in advance of release. What I found was a build that seemed far more stable and faster performing than I had previously with the WFBS 7.0 product. Good work Trend (and I might say about time too). I did find that the client machines (and servers) after the upgrade, required a reboot. This was not documented in the beta notes that I had, and I’ve not checked the public release as yet.
A few questions though that Trend have not publicly posted on are included below – these are my words, not theirs but is based on discussions I’ve had with them and I’m permitted to talk about.
Q. Is WFBS 7.0 Build 1417 supported on SBS 2011 Standard or Essentials?
A. No – Trend have a planned release of WFBS 7.0 SP1 that will fully support SBS 2011 Standard and Essentials. They do not have any WFBS products that are supported on the released versions of SBS 2011 Standard or Essentials
Q. When will WFBS 7.0 SP1 be released by Trend?
A. When they have finished tested it and it’s ready for prime time. They estimate Q3 at this point provided it meets the quality and roadmap expectations they have set for themselves.

So what are you using to protect SBS 2011?
Wayne Small says
Right now – not deploying SBS 2011 🙂
Mike Hatfield says
Good to know.
Is Q3 April to June or Septemter to December?
I’m not presuming anything!
Thanks
Wayne Small says
My understanding is Q3 is April to June… sad but true.

What Breaks???

HI Wayne,
Would you recommend installing WFBS 7 on SBS 2008 with apache or with IIS ?
I’m not decided witch will be the easiest to support, since there seems to bug a few issues not resolved in version 7.
Thanks for your time and great website !
Wayne Small says
Always install with IIS – that way you don’t need to worry about patching Apache at all.
My WFBS 7 guide will be released before Easter – just waiting for the final bits for SBS 2011 support 🙂
