Those following the breaking news on Windows Server 2012 Essentials will be pleasantly surprised at a new word that we can talk about today. Transmogrify is that word. It’s actually a very real word and it means to change shape or form.
How this applies to Windows Server 2012 Essentials is that you can take WS2012E and apply this Transmogrification Pack and voila – it’s now Windows Server 2012 Standard but with the Essentials features still there. This is how you can break out of the 25 user/50 device limit and open it up to even more. It won’t require reinstallation of the Operating System and therefore you run VERY LITTLE risk of anything bad happening when you apply it. This will then allow you to treat it like a real Windows Server 2012, but still use the Essentials features such as the console. To be fair, the full details of this are not announced just yet, either is pricing, but I suspect we’ll hear more about it real soon.
This single feature is both fantastic and bizarre as it allows you to do something NEVER BEFORE possible with SBS. Not even the old now defunct SBS Transition Pack worked this well.
Yah for the SBS Dev team.. err… sorry the Windows Server 2012 Essentials Dev Team… bah – I’ll still call it SBS… been around way too long.
Stay tuned for more information on Windows Server 2012 Essentials… this thunderstorm cloud may actually have a silver lining after all…

I heard this word in use today, and in context. It is used in the movie Space Chimps 2. Who would have thought?
