One of the common issues we face in our industry is when a new version of a product is released, the support for that new product and our ability to deploy it is limited by the other vendors programs that need to work together.
Windows Server 2012 has been released, and here’s a list of the current products that I use for our client deployment and their required versions
Trend Micro WFBS 7.0 – Trend released a patch for WFBS 7.0 on October 23rd to allow it to support Server 2012 and Windows 8 – you can get it here WFBS-70-SP1-WIN-EN-CriticalPatch-B2471.exe
StorageCraft ShadowProtect – is currently NOT supported officially on Windows Server 2012 – I’ve been told to expect an update within the next 3 months that will support Windows Server 2012. This means that if you use it and have a problem, they might not be able to help you.
Does this mean it does not work? Well based on my own tests it works. From what I’ve been told the issue here will be with things like ReFS (new file system that can be used with Windows Server 2012) and also things like support for VHDX files which are new in 2012. So – if you want to try it out, go for it, but I’d not be using it for production systems as the risk of running a not supported scenario is high – would you like to explain that to your client? Nope – didn’t think so. I hope StorageCraft can do better than 3 months to get this working, or alternately support it now with specific exceptions so that we can understand now.
What other products are you using and are they properly supported with Windows Server 2012?
