In our office, one of our guys Damien, is our resident coder/programmer guru. I showed him a book today “Windows Command-Line Administrators Pocket Consultant” from MS Press ISBN 978-0-7356-2038-4. This book is one I’m reading right now and shows how with nothing more than the tools that come with Windows 2003 and the Resource kit, you can script all kinds of cool things. Creation of RAID sets, printers, users, you name it. Damien was somewhat overcome with enthusiasm as he said “This is like geek porn”.
Seriously guys if you don’t do much in the way of scripting now, then you need to get ready for it as Windows 2008 and therefore SBS 2008 (Cougar) will be more configurable by scripting than ever before. In fact based on my work so far with Exchange 2007, there is so much that you CAN NOT DO with the GUI that will require you to learn some scripting.
