I’m currently starting a trial of a hosted virtual server that I don’t actually own or control the hardware for. I’m looking at ways to reduce my costs moving into 2010 and currently I am paying $1000 per month for a 1/2 rack of space at a data centre in Sydney. In reality I don’t need the entire 1/2 rack of space, but need a couple of hosted virtualised servers to do the things that I do. I’ve decided to commence a trial with an Aussie company called VMVault. Radek Tkaczyk (no idea how to pronounce that alphabet) is one of their tech geeks and has been in SMB for some time. He’s the guy responsible for me giving this a go so I’ll blame him when / if it does not work out 🙂
I would have liked to use a hosted server that used Hyper-V but I could not find one based in Australia, so I had to go with VMVaults service which is based on VMWare (no don’t kick me out of the MS club please…)
Anyway – I’ve signed up for the trial, now busy building my virtual machine on their systems. Will write a full review of their service once I’ve had more experience with it.
