WSUS on Windows Server 2016 crashes periodically

August 9, 2017 by Wayne Small 2 Comments

I’ve noticed on Windows Server 2016 with WSUS Server Role installed, that the WSUS console will often go into the “Reset Server Node” screen. I feel that I’ve noticed this more frequently on WSUS 4.0 which runs on Windows Server 2016 than ever before to be honest.  I spent a little time investigating it so I could find a solution.  Here’s what I found. I found that initially … [Read more...]

Bringing SBS 2008 to patch Windows 8 and Window Server 2012

March 7, 2013 by Wayne Small 2 Comments

I recently had to reinstall WSUS 3.0 SP2 onto an SBS 2008 server which became horribly messed up.  I followed the SBS 2008 Repair guide and some notes of my own here and then applied WSUS 3.0 SP2 over the top of it.  That was great, but then I had issues with the existing clients not being able to check in to the SBS 2008 server.  They all gave error 800B0001 … [Read more...]

Cleaning up WSUS Failed Upgrade on SBS 2008

December 9, 2010 by Wayne Small 21 Comments

My post yesterday was about an issue a friend had with their SBS 2008 server.  Basically I was unsure as to how the suscomp.dll got removed from the server at all and why it totally broke all their websites on their SBS 2008 server.  It turns out that the system tried to install WSUS 3.0 Service Pack 2 (SP2) and as part of that process it removes WSUS 3.0 SP1 and the … [Read more...]

SBS 2008 + WSUS 3.0 SP2 = Fail

October 31, 2009 by Wayne Small 8 Comments

Like most good security conscious people I’ve applied all the relevant security patches to my network as they are released.  I've therefore left non critical patches to weekends when I can apply them at my leisure in case something went wrong.  Today one of the patches I was applying was the WSUS 3.0 SP2 patch.  I instigated the installation of this patch right … [Read more...]
