How can I recreate the /remote node on SBS 2008?

October 7, 2009 by Wayne Small 9 Comments

I helped a reseller with this problem in the last few days. Somehow someone had deleted the /remote node in the IIS manager on SBS 2008.  This resulted in the entire Remote Web Workplace not working at all.  The fix is quite simple really and whilst I had not seen the problem before I was fairly confident that I could resolve it.

On the SBS 2008 server logon as the network administrator.

  1. Start > Programs > Administrative Tools > Internet Information Servers (IIS) Manager
  2. Expand the node named SERVERNAME (where the servername is the name of your server)
  3. Expand the Sites node
  4. Expand the SBS Web Applications node
  5. Right click on the SBS Web Applications node and select Add Application
  6. In the Add Application dialog box enter Remote into the Alias field
  7. In the Physical Path field enter “C:\Program Files\Windows Small Business Server\Bin\webapp\Remote”
  8. Verify that the Application pool field is “SBS Web Applications application pool” – it should be this by default.
  9. Select OK

Then test Remote Web Workplace to see that it’s all working fine.

Thank you so much, I couldn’t find the directory that Remote was stored in… what a waste of time! Everyone told me I would have to reinstall IIS and Exchange… tards.

Thanks again for an awesome post.

    Cheers,

    Matt

No problems Matt, This is why I started this site – to help others deal with things that I’ve already dealt with.

Does the same apply for SBS 2011? I checked under sites but do not have an SBS Web Applications node.
Any pointers would be really welcome.

I was curious if you ever considered changing the page layout
of your website? Its very well written; I love what
youve got to say. But maybe you could a little more in the way
of content so people could connect with it better. Youve got an
awful lot of text for only having one or 2 images.
Maybe you could space it out better?
