Dating Websites–a whole new twist to privacy concerns…

January 17, 2011 by Wayne Small 2 Comments

It’s with great concern that I read today an article that is suggesting that like it or not, [email protected] is about to have a dating profile created for him on some US based dating website… this is regardless of if I want to or not – it’s going to be done and I won’t have even ever visited the site.  How can this be legal I hear you ask ???

It will be done using “publicly available information” about me… hmm – now I don’t have a problem with what I’ve posted in public – I stand by what I’ve said as being accurate and my own personal opinion at that point in time (sure our thoughts and opinions do change).  There’s a lot about me out there in public – heck – google Wayne Small and check the first image – yup – a staged photo with a good friend – however if you didn’t know that you might think otherwise.  Anyway I have great concern here that some US based dating website is now going to use what I’ve put “out there” to make it look like it has the worlds largest dating database… false advertising?  Come on.. how bout a breach of privacy?  Apparently the US regulators don’t think it’s a worry – however the Australian Privacy commissioner DOES think it is…

Facebook seems to be the biggest potential source for this info – so I’d suggest you lock down your profiles quick smart… I locked down mine a few months back even tighter as I found myself a stalker… someone so twisted in their own minds that they felt they could and should interfere in my marital affairs… scary huh.  Lucky for me I know who the stalker is… and so do the police now.  As for my marital affairs – they are my business and no one else’s unless I choose to tell them.

So people – you’ve been warned… watch out even more what you make public on the Internet because people are out to get you… maybe not today, but someday they will.

My developer is trying to convince me to move to
.net from PHP. I have always disliked the idea because of the expenses.
But he’s tryiong none the less. I’ve been using Movable-type on various
websites for about a year and am nervous about switching to another
platform. I have heard excellent things about
blogengine.net. Is there a way I can transfer all my wordpress
posts into it? Any help would be really appreciated!

It does offer plenty of advanced settings that equally consume your computer resources.
I began to wonder whether these alerts would ever
    prove useful.
