Community Highlight – Tim Barrett

June 18, 2010 by Wayne Small Leave a Comment

Our first member setup for ridicule… err I mean highlight is fellow SBS MVP Tim Barrett.  Tim is a man of few words, but he has an amazing amount of knowledge.  Tim also runs a regular comic strip from his blog which is a tongue in cheek view of the IT industry.

Blog / website: http://www.nogeekleftbehind.com

Who are you? Timothy Truman Barrett

Where are you based? Louisville Kentucky USA

What kind of business do you run/work in? Managed Service Provider – outsourced IT services for small- and medium-sized businesses. Specializing in SBS, SharePoint and WHS.

What type of clients  do you work with? Ones who pay their bills.

What’s the best thing you like about working with those clients? Using technology to make clients more profitable, professional and more productive.

What’s the worst thing you dislike about working with those clients? Some clients find a ‘deal’ and purchase it without consulting us first, and the so-called deal ends up costing them more in the long run.

What’s the next big challenge you think your clients face? Malware on mobile devices.

What is your one secret to success you want to share with everyone? Have fun, because you don’t want to burn out or become boring, and spend as much time with your family as you can.

Trivia / Fun

What is your favourite breakfast food? Cold pizza.

If you had a million dollars how would you spend it? Buy a 1972 Oldsmobile Cutlass 442 convertible and restore it, and let my wife spend the rest as she sees fit.

If you could meet someone living or dead, who would it be and why? Albert Einstein (preferably alive) because I think I could take him in arm wrestling. Second choice would be Jerome Lester Horwitz, same reason.

What was the funniest thing you have ever experienced? Watching the movie “Bill Cosby Himself” as a teenager.

What one thing has had the biggest impact on your life on who you are today? My mom. She raised 7 kids by herself and taught me to work hard, use my head, and never give up.

What is something that not a lot of people know about you but you wish more people could know? I hate country music and people who use the last of the toilet paper without replacing the roll. And I love bacon.

What kind of car do you drive & why? Ford Explorer – Good for camping or hauling computers around, but not big enough that friends want me to help them move with it. Drives well in all weather.

What’s the one thing you want people to remember you for after you die? Nothing. I don’t plan on dying.
